A 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to safe, year-round access on Forest Road 670 for emergency services, contractors, recreation, and fire evacuation.

Our mission
Protecting access for the community
Friends of Big Bug Mesa Road was formed by residents and road users to keep FR 670 passable through the Prescott National Forest. We pool resources, coordinate maintenance, and advocate for this public corridor.

Frequently asked
Membership and the road
- Who is eligible to join Friends of Big Bug Mesa Road?
- Owners and residents of parcels served by Forest Road 670. If your county parcel ID is on the corridor map, you can request a membership. People without a parcel can still donate.
- How are membership dues and voting rights calculated?
- Voting shares follow acreage, capped at 20 shares per parcel. Founding initiation is $1,000 per share; annual dues $50 per share. A parcel can hold only one active membership at a time.
- What does my membership fee pay for?
- Grading, drainage, rock removal, and the equipment it takes to keep FR 670 passable for emergency services, deliveries, residents, and fire evacuation.
- Who enforces the speed limit on Forest Road 670?
- Friends of Big Bug Mesa Road does not enforce speed limits. The Forest Service permit covers maintenance of the road only. It does not authorize the organization to police the road. Speed enforcement is the responsibility of the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Forest Patrol Unit and U.S. Forest Service law enforcement officers. Questions or concerns about speed should be directed to those authorities.
- Will the road be treated for dust?
- Dust control can be part of maintaining the road, but it comes after repairing the road and ordinary upkeep. Dust remediation is not in the FY 2027 budget. It may be considered in a later budget if funding is available.
- Will Forest Road 670 be plowed when it snows?
- Snow plowing is in the FY 2027 budget only if that budget is fully funded. Repairing the road comes first. Forest Road 670 is a primitive road and is not presumed to be passable in winter. The organization is arranging on-call contracts for professional plowing, but the plows will not be sent out without the funds to pay for them.
- How do I report a road hazard or maintenance need?
- Members may sign in to the Membership Portal and submit a Road Report to the Board.
- Can I volunteer for work days instead of paying dues?
- Work days are welcome. They do not replace voting shares — the board still records shares on the parcel.
- What if I want to donate but I am not eligible for membership?
- Download the donation form, mail a check, and mark whether you want to be listed publicly. Donations may be tax-deductible. Levels are Friends of the Road, Road Supporters, Road Patron, Road Champion, Road Benefactor, and Road Legacy. You do not need a parcel.
- Why don't I see my name on the Donors page?
- Membership initiation fees and annual dues are not considered donations and do not appear on the Donors page. Donors who do not check the box “YES, PUBLICLY RECOGNIZE ME AND INCLUDE MY NAME” on the donation form will not appear on the Donors page. If you donated in excess of the initiation fee or annual dues and would like to be recognized, email the treasurer at [email protected] to update your donation record.
